Enhanced mobility for pentacene TFT built on NH3-annealed thermally grown SiO2
We have enhanced the mobility of pentacene OTFTs using NH 3-annealed SiO2 as gate dielectric and this annealing method is often applied in the semiconductor industry for inorganic transistors. The device has field-effect mobility higher than 0.5 cm2/Vs, with on/off current ratio larger than 106, and subthreshold slope less than 2.5 V per decade. When compared with the control sample, which uses N 2-annealed SiO2, the mobility of the proposed pentacene OTFT increases by over 50%. © 2005 IEEE.published_or_final_versio
Medical treatment of viral pneumonia including SARS in immunocompetent adult
Since no randomized controlled trials have been conducted on the treatment of viral pneumonia by antivirals or immunomodulators in immunocompetent adults, a review of such anecdotal experience are needed for the more rational use of such agents. Case reports (single or case series) with details on their treatment and outcome in the English literature can be reviewed for pneumonia caused by human or avian influenza A virus (50 patients), varicella zoster virus (120), adenovirus (29), hantavirus (100) and SARS coronavirus (SARS-CoV) (841). Even with steroid therapy alone, the mortality rate appeared to be lower when compared with conservative treatment for pneumonia caused by human influenza virus (12.5% vs. 42.1%) and hantavirus (13.3% vs. 63.4%). Combination of an effective antiviral, acyclovir, with steroid in the treatment of varicella zoster virus may be associated with a lower mortality than acyclovir alone (0% vs. 10.3%). Combination of interferon alfacon-1 plus steroid, or lopinavir/ritonavir, ribavirin plus steroid were associated with a better outcome than ribavirin plus steroid (0% vs. 2.3% vs. 7.7%, respectively). Combination of lopinavir/ritonavir plus ribavirin significantly reduced the virus load of SARS-CoV in nasopharyngeal, serum, stool and urine specimens taken between day 10 and 15 after symptom onset when compared with the historical control group treated with ribavirin. It appears that the combination of an effective antiviral and steroid was associated with a better outcome. Randomized therapeutic trial should be conducted to ascertain the relative usefulness of antiviral alone or in combination with steroid. © 2004 The British Society. Published by Elsevier Ltd. CLUDE: An Efficient Algorithm for LU Decomposition Over a Sequence of Evolving Graphs
Session: Matrix Factorization, Clustering and Probabilistic DataIn many applications, entities and their relationships are
represented by graphs. Examples include the WWW (web
pages and hyperlinks) and bibliographic networks (authors
and co-authorship). A graph can be conveniently modeled
by a matrix from which various quantitative measures are
derived. Some example measures include PageRank and
SALSA (which measure nodes’ importance), and Personalized
PageRank and Random Walk with Restart (which measure
proximities between nodes). To compute these measures,
linear systems of the form Ax = b, where A is a matrix
that captures a graph’s structure, need to be solved. To
facilitate solving the linear system, the matrix A is often decomposed
into two triangular matrices (L and U). In a dynamic
world, the graph that models it changes with time and
thus is the matrix A that represents the graph. We consider
a sequence of evolving graphs and its associated sequence of
evolving matrices. We study how LU-decomposition should
be done over the sequence so that (1) the decomposition
is efficient and (2) the resulting LU matrices best preserve
the sparsity of the matrices A’s (i.e., the number of extra
non-zero entries introduced in L and U are minimized.) We
propose a cluster-based algorithm CLUDE for solving the
problem. Through an experimental study, we show that
CLUDE is about an order of magnitude faster than the
traditional incremental update algorithm. The number of
extra non-zero entries introduced by CLUDE is also about
an order of magnitude fewer than that of the traditional
algorithm. CLUDE is thus an efficient algorithm for LU decomposition
that produces high-quality LU matrices over an
evolving matrix sequence.published_or_final_versio

Improved performance for OTFT with HfTiO2 as gate dielectric by N2O annealing
OTFTs with HfTiO 2 as gate dielectric have been successfully fabricated. The devices show small threshold voltage and subthreshold slope, and thus are suitable for low-voltage and low-power applications. This work also finds that OTFT with gate dielectric annealed in N 2O has larger dielectric constant, smaller threshold voltage, smaller subthreshold slope and larger on/off ratio than the N 2-annealed sample. This demonstrates that the N 2O annealing is an important surface treatment for preparing a high-quality insulator/organic interface. © 2007 IEEE.published_or_final_versio
